MISSION

The mission of the Museum of Costume Jewelry is to collect, preserve, research, and exhibit 20th Century and contemporary costume jewelry designers through a variety of programs. These programs include museum exhibits, publications, lectures, oral and visual history, and adult and children's educational activities.

VISION

To create a state-of-the-art, centrally located museum that is a vibrant and welcoming hub for Western North Carolina residents, a resource for students of the fashion arts, and a world class tourist destination in beautiful Asheville, North Carolina.

EXHIBITS

The exhibits will be an artistic experience that is enhanced by an educational component.  Visitors are invited to learn about the rich history of changing materials used in jewelry design, to follow jewelry and fashion trends of various eras, and to understand how cultural, industrial, and political trends have influenced jewelry production over the past century. Learn how the partnerships between the courtiers and ateliers in Europe such as Chanel, Dior, and Schiaparelli worked closely together to produce haute couture fashion. View hundreds of pieces of costume jewelry throughout the 20th century and beyond: from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, to the glamour of Hollywood (Joseff of Hollywood), through the post-WWII years when precious materials were scarce, to the Lucite fashions of the 1970's, and to pieces that costume jewelers of today are creating.

All the exhibits in the museum celebrate the artistic craftsmanship of the jewelry designers and manufacturers who have created these enchanting and exotic pieces of jewelry. We honor the creations of jewelers through the years and believe that jewelry is indeed one of the highest forms of artistic expression.

LEARNING CENTER

The museum will feature a dedicated learning center where students of all ages can explore the art of jewelry design and production. Attend engaging lectures by renowned jewelry historians and contemporary designers. Take part in our outreach programs as we bring the museum experience to those who are unable to visit. Enjoy rotating special events and visiting exhibits that highlight the richness of the jewelry arts. We also proudly partner with schools, colleges, and universities to support art education and foster a deeper appreciation for artistic expression.

GIFT SHOP & Event Space

The gift shop will include unique finds for the jewelry enthusiast as well as resource books on jewelry and fashion.

The museum is uniquely designed for private events such as corporate and private parties.
